Dave Phillips has recently returned from an unforgettable trip to Spain, where he proudly represented England in the World Hoof Trimming Cup 2025 at the Anka Summer Trimming School and International Hoof Health and Welfare Conference.
Held at the historic Mas Bes farm—home to five generations of livestock farming and more than 1,200 Friesian-Holstein cows—the event brought together 28 skilled hoof trimmers from around the world to compete in technique, speed, and welfare-focused trimming.
Dave earned his place to represent England after winning the UK qualifying heat at the NACFT AGM in Stoke-on-Trent earlier this year. He went on to finish an impressive sixth overall, a result that reflects his expertise, professionalism, and dedication to advancing cattle hoof care.
The World Cup tested competitors across several key trimming criteria: hoof length, sole thickness, hoof balance and modeling. Judging was carried out by an international panel under a carefully structured scoring system, with strong emphasis on fairness and animal welfare.
Over two days, the Summer Trimming School hosted practical workshops, networking opportunities, and technical sessions. The event was exceptionally well organised and created a valuable platform for learning and exchanging best practices. It was a true celebration of the global hoof trimming community’s commitment to high standards and ongoing professional development.
The competition was streamed live on YouTube, allowing people around the world to watch and support their country. You can catch the replay here:
