Summer Beef Meeting – Salisbury, Wiltshire. Sponsored by Norbrook.
Join our Beef Vets for our Farm Meeting, kindly hosted by Tim Mallett, Dean Farm.
Tim and the Beef Vet Team will discuss challenges and practical application of rotational grazing, the value of regular herd monitoring with respect to Johnes disease and fertility. We will also look at lessons learnt from historical breeding decisions and make an appraisal of Tim’s handling system- pros and cons.
Tim aims to keep around 50 stabiliser x cows, but currently is down to 24! & 15-20 pedigree Shetland cows, on around 350ac, running east of Salisbury of either side of what becomes the Dunn Valley. 150ac is conservation grazing currently running 19 shetland cows and youngstock. Around 75ac is used by the commercial herd, the balance is in other enterprises including stewardship ( which may increase ), sheep, sheepdog training and horses. He also runs a farm plastic recycling business.
