Sheep Farm Walk – Herbal Leys. Sponsored by MSD
Herbal leys – a practical perspective on the dos and don’ts of growing and grazing them for commercial flocks
We are delighted to invite you to an evening farm walk courtesy of Gareth Beynon of Rampisham Manor Farms. They run 2,000 commercial ewes plus ewe lambs, predominantly Lleyns and Aberfields, lambing outdoors and grazing extensively. The farm has used herbal leys for a number of years to buffer feed availability for lambs through the summer months, breeding their own replacements and finishing the remainder. We will discuss the potential benefits of herbal leys including drought resistance and some anthelmintic properties, as well considering the possible pitfalls. The farm has also recently established an expanding suckler herd of Belted Galloways, which are outwintered on bale grazing and help to introduce stock rotation to the estate
Light supper and refreshments available.
