Farm Walk at Box Farm near Salisbury
We welcome you to join members of the Synergy Farm Health team along with Mark and Jane Melly at their home Box Farm, Vernham Dean near Salisbury – SP11 0LJ.
Mark & Jane Melly have kindly invited us to visit. They own 300 acres, in an organic rotation of three years grass / clover leys and three years cereals. In addition they rent another 550 acres of neighbouring permanent pasture.
Stock consists of 90 suckler cows and followers split between Red and Black Aberdeen Angus, run commercially and housed overwinter and a pedigree Sussex herd grazing poorer quality grassland and largely outwintered, 400 breeding ewes and 3500 Christmas turkeys.
We will have the opportunity to discuss measures to control TB, ticks and Redwater, as well as look at how the farm uses herbal leys and mob grazing strategies. We will also look at areas where a close working relationship between vet and farm with the use of data analysis is helping improve farm productivity and future sustainability, with particular reference to nutrition of both cows and weaned calves.
Lunch will be provided. Booking essential. Full joining instructions will be emailed prior to the event.
