Lameness and Footcare
We are skilled in the investigation, prevention and control of lameness problems on dairy units. An investigation includes a whole farm approach, with discussion of nutrition, environmental factors, routine foot care and the treatment of lame cows.
We are experienced in the treatment and control of digital dermatitis and are able to advise on the most appropriate options available to limit the spread of this disease in your herd. We can also advise on the impact of environmental factors on lameness such as the use of cow tracks to access summer grazing.
Following an in depth farm investigation we will develop an action plan with you to both, reduce lameness incidence, and ensure the rapid and effective treatment of problems that occur.
For the last 18 years the Partner Vets in Synergy Farm Health have been holding one day Foot Care Courses. These have proved to be very popular both for Practice clients and for farmers and vets throughout the south. The course tutors Mark Burnell and Jon Reader have been involved with cattle lameness for over 25 years. These very hands on days (6 attendees and 3 crushes) now have the added benefit of involvement from our own Diploma holding foot trimmers Roy and Tim, who also is an assessor for the new UK Diploma.
